Importance of Dog Play and Dog Games
Dogs are naturally playful animals and response well to play that usually begin when they are about 3 weeks young. By playing with its mother, littermates or even owner, a puppy will learn about social relationship, develop communication skills and create a life long bonding.
Through play, puppies and dogs also develop a variety of physical abilities, such as manual dexterity and improving coordination and movement. They also learn how to show tolerance, friendliness and willingness to cooperate – all of which are foundations to a good relationship with people.
Regular play session can also provide your dog an outlet for his instinctive desire to stalk and chase. Dogs with strong predatory instinct will then be less likely to develop behavioral problems.
Same goes to working breed dogs. They are bred to be mentally and physically active. Unless dog owners can provide these dogs with a range of stimulating activities, these breeds tend to become bored easily, and will develop destructive and aggressive behaviors.
Play is an important aspect for a happier and healthier dog. As far as possible, you must offer more play sessions for your dog.
P.S. While playing games with your dog is both fun and rewarding, you should not just play any games with your dog. You should avoid what we called "bad games". Because these games teaches your dog the wrong things and might lead to future social problems.
